American Kennel Club (AKC)

The AKC believes every dog can be well-behaved and every owner an excellent caregiver. The Canine Good Citizen program is a 10-skill test that teaches good manners to dogs and responsible ownership to their people. It welcomes purebred and mixed breed dogs of any age.

AKC Community Canine is the advanced level of CGC. Instead of simulated skills, dogs are evaluated in natural settings like real crowds and busy sidewalks, in a 10-step on-leash test.

S.T.A.R. Puppy program

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy kickstarts positive dog and owner relationships. It covers practical puppy-raising topics like housetraining and socialization over a six week class, followed by the S.T.A.R. Puppy test, and is a great first step toward the Canine Good Citizen title.

Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU)

Urban CGC asks dogs to show advanced CGC skills in a city or town environment, handling traffic, crowds, noise and distractions in a real-world 10-step test. Dog-friendly businesses can use it to recognize well-mannered dogs.
